I’ll try to get them all sent tonight, but if not, definitely before the weekend is over. Have you guys read Stolen by Elizabeth Gilpin? I finished it this week and am floored by the similarities in Carlbrook’s program to CEDU. I went to Rocky Mountain Academy, Ascent, and North Idaho Behavioral Health. Tim Brace was already gone before I arrived, but he is infamous for copping out in raps (request groups) to giving sailors blowjobs for drug money. When reading Stolen, I couldn’t help but wonder if he was Alan.

Hi, I’m doing some research to supporting my partner’s continued recovery from their Carlbrook experience. Can you verify if these scripts were in use when you were there? Most accounts I see are in the 2005-10 range, but my partner was there around the same time as you. Thank you so much!

      1. Lathrop Lybrook

I went to Rocky Mountain Academy (RMA) in 1998 and 1999. RMA was a part of CEDU and is what Carlbrook’s program was based on. If you look at the bottom of the workshop scripts, it says they were copyrighted in 2002, and on the title page, it says the date of the last revision. Therefore, I think it is safe to assume these were the scripts that were used in the Carlbrook workshops during those times.

Elizabeth Gilpin who went to Carlbrook wrote an amazing memoir about her time there, and she describes in heart wrenching detail how the scripts were implemented. If you have not read it, I recommend it. Good luck with your research. I hope something good comes from it. Let me know if I can help in anyway.

They were the scripts used at the time we went there. I was in the same peer group as Alastair. Hope your partner continues their recovery journey. It is a long, arduous process.

I believe I have sent out the scripts to everyone who requested them. If you have not received them and would like them, please let me know.

I would also love PDFs, when you have some time. I read Stolen when it came out over the summer and can’t remember all of the character names but Tim definitely was one and Alan feels correct. I’m also so curious about how you got these.

    1. Lathrop Lybrook

I just sent them to you. Please let me know if you don’t receive them. The person who gave me the scripts asked that I not reveal their identity, and I told them I wouldn’t. I hope you understand.

Not sure if you still check this page but I’d love to get a copy of these as PDFs so they don’t disappear. I graduated in ’05. Wound up here because I was talking to people on my twitch stream about going to Carlbrook since a new Netflix documentary just came out about a school in NY state that was similar. Thanks!

Hi JA, I watched the documentary too. The Program: Cons, Cults, and Kidnapping was extremely triggering. I think the video footage from the surveillance cameras is what set it apart from everything else out there. The evidence they were able to present made their stories undeniable. I just sent the workshop scripts to you and hope you find them helpful. Please let me know if you don’t receive them.
