“If I were to remain silent, I’d be guilty of complicity.”—Albert Einstein
Whiteout was not an easy story to write. At times, it was extremely painful. The experience is a part of who I am, and I am tired of treating it like dust swept under the rug. I strongly believe the boarding school I was sent to was a cult. I attended Rocky Mountain Academy (RMA) in 1998 and 1999. Along with several other therapeutic boarding schools (CEDU School, Hilltop for Young Adults, CEDU Middle School, Ascent, Boulder Creek Academy, Northwest Academy, and Milestones Transitional Program), RMA was a part of the CEDU Family of Services. During 1998, it was sold to Brown Schools for $72 million dollars, not long before my arrival. On Good Friday in 2005, after Rocky Mountain Academy lost several lawsuits for battery, neglect, racketeering, invasion of privacy, and child abuse, Brown Schools declared bankruptcy, which resulted in all CEDU schools being shut down.
Everything I have written is true, and I have paperwork documenting my entire stay at Rocky Mountain Academy, including booth journals, my Voyageur portfolio, propheet cards, and written correspondence between me and both my parents. Going through everything was cathartic. I got a better understanding of why I am where I am at this point in my life. What I have written is extremely personal. I changed the names of the people who did not give me permission to use them. The real names in the story listed in order of appearance are Jade, Lisa, Kodi, Phil, Becca, Heidi, Melody, Sasha, Jen, Amber, Jess, Bret, Holley, Jessika, McLean, and Stuart. I am hoping more people will grant me permission to use their real names in the future. Despite the content, I hope you find it an enjoyable read. If you know me personally, I’m sure it will explain a lot.
Since writing Whiteout in 2018, I have been working on turning it into an autobiography that will include the history of my family, my life leading up to being sent away, and the 24 years that followed my captivity. I hope to have it finished by the end of 2024. If you work in the publishing or film industry and are interested in reading the finished product, I hope you will reach out. I have written well over 1,000 pages and am considering breaking it down into several different books. I am eager to hear feedback. If you have any, please send me a message on the “Contact” page. If you would like to be notified when my book is complete, you can submit your name and email address on the “Contact” page as well. Thank you for reading my writing. I appreciate your interest!
